Abstract
Lì dove avremmo potuto immaginare un cacciatore ‘generico’ alle prese con le spoglie della sua vittima, lo sguardo etnografico rivela una pluralità di soggetti animati da motivazioni diverse. L’estetica dei trofei ci insegna che le cose cambiano a seconda che il cacciatore sia un possidente o un bracciante, un cittadino o un rurale. Tutto questo è molto istruttivo (e in linea con le aspettative dell’ortodossia antropologica). Ma ci basta? L’operazione opposta, che consiste nell’interrogare la fenomenologia del trofeo a partire dalle numerose somiglianze, è da considerarsi illegittima?
Where we could expect to find a ‘generic’ hunter busy with the remains of his victim, the ethnographic view reveals a plurality of subjects animated by different motivations. The aesthetic of trophies shows us things are different in case of the hunter being a landowner or a farm laborer, a townsperson or a country dweller. These thoughts are very instructive (and corresponding to expectations of anthropological orthodoxy). However, is it enough? Can the opposite approach – investigating the phenomenology of the trophies starting from a lot of similarities – be considered illegitimate?
