Abstract
Younes, Mahmud e Naima sono tre ragazzi che vivono e lavorano all’interno del campo profughi palestinesi di Yarmuk, alla periferia sud est di Damasco. Le tre interviste, tratte dal lavoro di tesi di laurea di Irene Miracca, ritagliano all’interno del mondo palestinese in esilio, le dinamiche di elaborazione, conservazione, trasmissione delle identità palestinesi, che avvengono nello spazio del ‘campo’, e più in particolare nel centro giovani Salam che al suo interno svolge un ruolo attivo nella formazione e nella trasmissione culturale alle nuove generazioni. Giunte ormai alla quarta dall’esilio del ’48, le generazioni nate nei campi sono infatti impegnate a elaborare a distanza, sia storica che geografica, un’immagine della terra delle origini. Processi che avvengono oltre che all’interno della famiglia, in larga parte nei contesti collettivi della formazione scolastica (scuole UNRWA), e delle attività ricreative e culturali del centro giovani.
Younes, Mahmud, and Naima live in and work in the Palestinian refugee camp of Yarmuk, in the southeastern periphery of Damasco (Syria). The three interviews are part of the corpus of documents produced by Irene Miracca for her final thesis. Gazing into the life of exiled Palestinians, such documents detail the processes of construction, protection, and transmission of Palestinian identities that take place within the space of the ‘camp’, and, in particular, in the Salam youth center, which plays an active role in the education and cultural transmission to younger generations. In fact, from the date of the exile (1948), four generations of Palestinians were born in the camp, and they are engaged – from a geographical and historical distance – in processes of construction of an image of their land of origin. Such dynamics take place not only within the family, but also in the collective contexts for formal education (UNRWA schools), and during the recreational and cultural activities provided by the youth center.
