Abstract
Il contributo, fondato su carteggi inediti, focalizza l’amicizia fra Giovanni Giannini (1867-1940) ed Arrigo Balladoro (1872-1927) solerti cultori di tradizioni popolari ed attenti raccoglitori di un patrimonio etno-antropologico delle rispettive realtà geografico-culturali in via di estinzione. Oltre a molti interessi dei corrispondenti e ad un cerchio di chiari studiosi loro estimatori, seguiremo dappresso la vicenda del periodico «Niccolò Tommaseo» fondato e diretto dal Giannini: l’apporto del Balladoro risultò consistente, ma anche imbarazzante, giacché nella testata d’interesse nazionale occupava uno spazio eccessivo il folclore veronese coltivato dal Conte Arrigo. L’estremo interesse culturale del Balladoro furono i dialetti italiani.
The contribute, based on unpublished letters, focuses on the friendship between Giovanni Giannini (1867-1940) and Arrigo Balladoro (1872-1927), diligent students of popular traditions and careful collectors of an ethnic-anthropologic heritage of their own geographical and cultural realities on the brink of extinction. Besides many of the correspondents’ interest and a circle of scholars who esteemed them, we will follow the vicissitudes of the periodical «Niccolò Tommaseo», founded and directed by Giannini: Balladoro’s contribution turned out to be considerable but, on the other hand, embarrassing, since the space devoted to Veronese folklore dealt by the Count Arrigo became excessive. In the last years of his life, the gentleman got interested in the study of Italian dialects.
