Delle esplorazioni si ripercorrono spesso le gesta degli uomini, intrepidi viaggiatori in terre inospitali. Ma cosa dire dei tragitti, non meno accidentati, che seguono gli oggetti nel passaggio dal loro prelievo sul campo sino a giungere nei musei che devono ospitarli? L’autrice ha cercato di ricostruire la storia delle collezioni etnografiche, antropologiche e fotografiche raccolte da Lamberto Loria nei suoi due soggiorni papuani attraverso le lettere, i diari e i materiali di archivio rimasti. Una storia che parte dalle selve e dai fiumi papuani per passare attraverso vendite e scambi fra i musei di Genova, Roma, Firenze e Modena, casse chiuse e dimenticate, donazioni e altro ancora. A dimostrare che i percorsi di queste collezioni sono quasi altrettanto avventurosi di quelli del loro artefice.
The deeds of men, intrepid travellers in inhospitable lands, are often at the core of explorations. But what about the paths, no less rugged, of the objects followed from their abduction from the field to the museums that are going to house them? The author tried to reconstruct the history of the ethnographic, anthropological and photographic collections made by Lamberto Loria in his two Papuan stays through the letters, the diaries, and the archival materials remained. A story that starts in the forests and rivers of British New Guinea and passes through sales and exchanges between the museums of Genoa, Rome, Florence and Modena, sealed and forgotten trunks, donations and much more; in order to prove that the paths of these collections are no less adventurous than those of their maker.
