Abstract
Di ritorno dai sette anni passati in Nuova Guinea britannica a documentare usi e costumi papuani, Lamberto Loria soggiorna alcuni mesi in Australia. Lì pubblica una serie eterogenea di scritti che testimoniano aspetti differenti del suo lavoro e del suo pensiero e che, per impostazione, uso e diffusione, raccontano della considerazione e del valore assunto dalla sua esperienza presso il pubblico australiano. Riproposti e contestualizzati qui dopo oltre cento anni, i brani di Loria, inediti in Italia, aiutano a fare luce sul periodo di passaggio che vede la chiusura della ‘fase papuana’ delle sue ricerche e il ritorno in Italia, così come sulle scelte che caratterizzeranno gli anni successivi.
Returning from the seven years spent in British New Guinea documenting Papuan customs and habits, Lamberto Loria sojourned some months in Australia. There he published a heterogeneous series of writings that show different aspects of his work and his thought, and that testify the consideration and the value assumed by his experience to the Australian public. Re-proposed and contextualized here after over a hundred years, Loria’s texts, unpublished in Italy, help shedding light on the period of transition that sees the closure of the ‘Papuan phase’ of his research and his return to Italy, as well as the choices that will characterize his following years.
