Abstract
L’educazione è stato un tema centrale nel progetto di transizione del Portogallo verso la modernità, e per la negoziazione e l’immaginazione di un futuro collettivo. In questo articolo, l’autrice indaga il modo in cui il passato è stato incluso nelle politiche educative, permettendo la riprogettazione dei futuri immaginati; si domanda come le eredità dei futuri passati permettano l’immaginazione del futuro nel presente; e considera inoltre i modi in cui gli incaricati dell’educazione e gli studenti danno significato a questi discorsi nei loro ambiziosi progetti. L’articolo, basato su una ricerca etnografica nel sistema educativo portoghese, analizza i modi in cui dinamiche locali e globali modellino il tempo, rendendo il futuro un terreno conflittuale in cui fissare obiettivi individuali o collettivi.
Education has been central to Portugal’s project of modernity, to the negotiation and imagination of a collective future. This article enquires how the past has been ingrained in education policies, enabling the re-design of imagined futures. It asks how legacies of past futures enable the imagination of the future in the present. Furthermore, it observes how educational agents and students signify these discourses in their aspirational projects. This article, based on ethnographic fieldwork in the Portuguese education system, discusses how local and global dynamics shape time, and how the future becomes a disputed terrain for setting individual or collective goals.
